Marcus Stroman Accepts Mets Qualifying Offer
4 years agoNew York Mets starting pitcher Marcus Stroman accepted the team's qualifying offer on Wednesday, which is valued at $18.9 million. Stroman will now return to the Mets for the 2021 season. Stroman put together a terrific 2019 season that helped him earn his first All-Star selection before getting shipped across the border to join the Mets at the trade deadline. In his 32 starts between Toronto and New York in 2019, he compiled 159 strikeouts in 184 1/3 innings while posting a 3.22 ERA and 1.31 WHIP in his 10-win season. In 2020, Stroman did not play a single game for the Mets, having suffered a calf injury before the season started and then opting out for the remainder of the season due to concerns related to COVID-19. Stroman currently slots in as the Mets second starter for the 2021 season behind Jacob deGrom. While his 2019 metrics and the missed 2020 season suggest some regression for 2021, at an ADP in the low-200s, Stroman makes for a great value pick in all mixed leagues as a back-end fantasy starter.
