Marcus Pettersson Signs Five-Year Extension
5 years agoPittsburgh Penguins defenseman Marcus Pettersson inked a five-year, $20.125 million contract extension to remain in the Steel City on Tuesday. The 23-year-old, who was set to become a restricted free-agent this summer, has evolved into a key cog on the Penguins blue line in a little over a year with his new team. Following a mid-season trade from Anaheim in December of last season, Pettersson has tallied 34 points (three goals, 31 assists), a plus-17 rating, 127 shots and 163 hits in 107 games played for the Pens. Known more for his play in his own zone, Pettersson tends to provide more value in real life than in fantasy, but can be considered a depth option in deeper formats counting hits. Playing in just his second full NHL season, the Swedish native still has plenty of room to grow offensively and remains a player to keep an eye on in dynasty formats. He'll lace up the skates next versus the Flyers on Friday.
