Marcus Mariota Won't Play In Preseason Finale
3 years agoLas Vegas Raiders head coach Jon Gruden does not want to play quarterback Marcus Mariota (quadriceps), due to his playing style, in the team's preseason finale on Sunday because he is not 100 percent recovered from his injury. Nathan Peterman "will start and Peterman will finish, until I get better information," Gruden said. The Raiders are being extremely cautious with Mariota, who should be fine for the start of the regular season as Derek Carr's backup under center. One of the highest-paid backups in the league, Mariota impressed against the Los Angeles Chargers in his lone start in 2020, but Carr remains the team's clear starter. With Peterman expected to see plenty of run this Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers, he'll make for a nice DFS target in the final weekend of the preseason.
