Marcelo Mayer With Fourth Straight Multi-Hit Effort On Tuesday
22 seconds agoBoston Red Sox infield prospect Marcelo Mayer went 2-for-4 with a double and a home run on Tuesday for Triple-A Worcester, collecting two RBI and one run scored in the process. It was the fourth consecutive multi-hit performance for the left-handed slugger, who also has tallied a whopping 14 RBI over that span. The 22-year-old is now slashing .247/.284/.468 on the young season, with five home runs and a stolen base. The former first-round draft pick is expected to make his big league debut at some point this year, but with Trevor Story, Alex Bregman, and Kristian Campbell each hitting no less than .297, right now there is no path to playing time unless Boston wanted to get him some reps at first base (Tristan Casas is hitting just .158 with one home run thus far). Regardless of exactly when it happens, if it looks like his arrival is getting closer, fantasy managers in redraft leagues should consider stashing him away before his call up.
