Marcelo Mayer Takes Batting Practice On Thursday
16 seconds agoAccording to Christopher Smith of MassLive.com, Boston Red Sox shortstop prospect Marcelo Mayer (back) was able to take batting practice on Thursday. This is a great sign, as Mayer ended the 2024 campaign on the injured list due to a lumbar strain. Mayer was also able to begin baseball activities in the offseason. Seeing him already participate in full activities on Thursday is a great sign and suggests he is fully healthy entering camp. The former fourth overall pick in the 2021 MLB Draft is viewed as the second-best prospect in the Boston system and 15th-best in the sport on MLB Pipeline. Last summer, Mayer posted a strong .307/.370/.480 line with 28 doubles and eight home runs across 77 games with Double-A. Given the time he missed last season, Mayer will likely open the season at the Triple-A level.
