Boston Red Sox shortstop prospect Marcelo Mayer (illness) is battling the stomach bug. His teammate Roman Anthony had it as well. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status but should expect him to be sidelined for a few days. The 22-year-old is considered one of the top prospects in Boston and the entire sport. Last season, Mayer logged 77 games with Double-A. Across this stint, Mayer posted a .307/.370/.480 slash line with 28 doubles and eight home runs. He swiped 13 bags and held a 30:66 BB:K ratio. This was a nice improvement compared to the .189/.254/.355 line he held across his first taste of Double-A during the 2023 season. He was promoted to Triple-A but could not make an appearance due to a back injury. Mayer will likely open the 2025 season at Triple-A and should push for a 2025 MLB debut.--Andy Smith - RotoBaller

Boston Red Sox infield prospect Marcelo Mayer notched his fifth consecutive multi-hit performance in Game 1 of Wednesday's doubleheader for Triple-A Worcester, then followed that up with a sixth straight multi-hit effort in Game 2. The left-handed slugger was 4-for-6 on the day with a walk, a home run, two RBI, and a run scored, now slashing .277/.318/.518 with six home runs and a minor-league-leading 26 RBI through 20 games. There's no clear path to playing time for the 22-year-old, however, he was at DH in Game 1 and at second base in Game 2; with shortstop being his primary position, it's possible he could have some sort of utility role whenever he gets the call in order to get him major league at-bats. As long as he stays hot, the closer his debut becomes, so fantasy managers should stay vigilant if looking for offensive help. --Jarod Rupp - RotoBaller

Boston Red Sox infield prospect Marcelo Mayer went 2-for-4 with a double and a home run on Tuesday for Triple-A Worcester, collecting two RBI and one run scored in the process. It was the fourth consecutive multi-hit performance for the left-handed slugger, who also has tallied a whopping 14 RBI over that span. The 22-year-old is now slashing .247/.284/.468 on the young season, with five home runs and a stolen base. The former first-round draft pick is expected to make his big league debut at some point this year, but with Trevor Story, Alex Bregman, and Kristian Campbell each hitting no less than .297, right now there is no path to playing time unless Boston wanted to get him some reps at first base (Tristan Casas is hitting just .158 with one home run thus far). Regardless of exactly when it happens, if it looks like his arrival is getting closer, fantasy managers in redraft leagues should consider stashing him away before his call up.--Jarod Rupp - RotoBaller

Boston Red Sox infield prospect Marcelo Mayer went 2-for-5 with a home run during their contest on Sunday against Triple-A Rochester. This was Mayer's third-straight contest tallying at least two hits and fourth-straight game tallying at least one hit. This was also Mayer's second long ball over his previous three contests. Over his last six contests, Mayer has begun to heat up at the plate, holding a .286/.333/.536 line with eight total hits (three for extra bases) and added 13 RBI. The 22-year-old spent most of his 2024 campaign with Double-A before earning the call to Triple-A Worcester. However, he could not appear in a contest due to hip and back injuries. However, the former fourth overall pick has begun to hit for power at Triple-A and is nearing his MLB debut. He should be in the mix to get the call to Boston in the coming months.--Andy Smith - RotoBaller

Boston Red Sox infield prospect Marcelo Mayer went 2-for-7 with a home run and seven RBI during their contest against Triple-A Rochester on Friday evening. Mayer would tally most of his RBIs on a grand slam in the second frame. Through his first taste of Triple-A, Mayer has struggled to find consistency. Through the first 15 games of the campaign, the former fourth overall pick has held a modest .203/.239/.344 slash line with just 13 total hits and a 3:15 BB:K. However, Mayer has tallied at least one hit in three of his past four games and could be turning the corner. Last summer, the No. 11-ranked prospect in the sport spent most of his summer with Double-A and held an excellent .307/.370/.480 line across 77 games. While he got the call to Triple-A, he could not take the field due to injuries. Mayer should be in the mix for his MLB debut later this summer.--Andy Smith - RotoBaller
