Marcelo Mayer Finishes Productive June With Homer
5 months agoBoston Red Sox shortstop prospect Marcelo Mayer went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI for Double-A Portland on Sunday. Mayer finished June hitting .333 with a homer and 12 RBI. He showed off his plate discipline with 14 walks compared to just 12 strikeouts in June and had a .438 on-base percentage in the month. The top overall prospect of the Red Sox is a highly polished hitter with loads of potential at the plate. He has hit .307 at Double-A this season with an .850 OPS. The 21-year-old could be in line for a promotion to Triple-A soon and a call-up to Boston isn't out of the question this season. He could help fantasy managers in the stretch run should he get the big league call.
