Manny Machado Crushes Sixth Homer In June
3 years agoSan Diego Padres third baseman Manny Machado went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and two runs scored Wednesday against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Machado extended his dominance over starter Trevor Bauer, going back-to-back with Jake Cronenworth in the first frame. Machado is now batting .520 with five homers in 25 at-bats against the right-hander. After snapping a seven-game hitting streak the prior evening, Machado continued his hot June, registering a .966 OPS this month with six round-trippers. Overall, he's performed below his lofty expectations, slashing .258/.338/.464 with 12 homers, eight steals and 86 runs-plus-RBI over 290 plate appearances. Smashing the ball with a 56 percent hard-hit rate and adding a bonus steals element with savvy baserunning, the 28-year-old looks poised for a strong summer.
