6 years agoTampa Bay Rays outfield Mallex Smith (illness) is recovering well from the illness that put him in the hospital for a few days. The Rays would like to get him some rehab work if they can. The suggested return date for Smith seems to be September 7 as mentioned in a few reports. Smith had been batting .385 since August 5 when he was moved to the lead-off spot of the batting order. Smith is a high-average hitter with elite speed (27 steals). If you can afford to be without him for a little longer, he could still help the last few weeks of the season.--Jamie Mellor
