Mallex Smith With Rare HR Sunday Versus Houston
6 years agoTampa Bay Rays outfielder Mallex Smith with a very rare HR Sunday versus the Astros. He would break the longest active homerless streak in the majors (by a non-pitcher) at 356 at-bats. The HR would turn out to be the winning margin in the 3-2 victory. He still will sit occasionally when facing a particularly nasty lefty but he has a decent chance to see the second-most playing time in the outfield going forward behind Kiermaier. Smith may have very little power, but he is batting .269 with 15 steals in 2018. He is not a major asset in shallower leagues, except as someone to rotate in if you need a fighting chance of a steal over the weekend to win a weekly head-to-head matchup.
