6 years agoTampa Bay Rays outfielder Mallex Smith (illness) is making progress in recovering from the illness that put him in the hospital. In fact, he was released from the hospital later in the day Sunday. It is also being suggested that his return to active duty could come soon after his 10 days are up on September 1. Smith had been batting .385 since August 5 when he was moved to the lead-off spot of the batting order. Smith is a high-average hitter with elite speed (27 steals). If you can afford to be without him for the 10 days, he could still help the last few weeks of the season.--Jamie Mellor
