Madison Bumgarner Strikes Out Three, Earns Win Tuesday
4 years agoArizona Diamondbacks starting pitcher Madison Bumgarner allowed two runs on three hits while striking out three in four innings of work on Tuesday, as he earned the win against the Athletics. Bumgarner allowed only one hit through the first three innings, before he got tagged for a pair of home runs in the fourth inning. Home runs were a big problem for Bumgarner in 2020, as his 22 percent HR/FB rate was his highest mark since his debut season in 2009. The strikeout rate has been trending downward over the past four years for Bumgarner, limiting his value in fantasy. But as shown in his first spring outing where he allowed one hit and struck out six in two innings, he can still turn it on when the matchup is right. Bumgarner will be a higher-end, matchup-dependent streaming option in many formats, and in deeper mixed or NL-only leagues he should be worth a late-round pick.
