Mackenzie Hughes A Volatile Choice In Houston
8 months agoComing off a solid T3 performance at The Copperhead Course, where Mackenzie Hughes narrowly missed picking up his third PGA Tour victory, the next stop on the schedule is an event that has been kind to Hughes over the years. With only one missed cut in six starts, the Canadian golfer has done everything but win in Houston. His best finish came in 2017; coming in at T7 on the week. However, the last time this event was held in April was his lone missed cut, and given that strokes gained with the flat stick have been his saving grace throughout his six starts; it's worth noting that his strokes gained putting was an average of 1.08 over the last four starts in this event that has been played in October/November compared to a troubling average of -0.25 in the same metric in his first two starts that were played in April. He did gain 2.39 strokes on the greens at Valspar, but the six events prior were horrendous. At $9,600 on FanDuel, Hughes' inflated ownership and hype coming off a solid performance is too much to recommend taking the plunge.
