4 years agoMackenzie Dern had to get it done on her feet in her battle with Virna Jandiroba, a fellow amazing grappler, on Saturday night. Dern controlled the striking war to take the unanimous-decision victory. Statistically, Dern tallied 82 significant strikes (101 total strikes) but failed to land any of her five attempted takedowns. Dern utilized her striking to take the first and second rounds but was unable to get her ground game going, even when she wanted to go there. Dern was ranked 11th in the UFC's strawweight division prior to this bout. Many of the fighters ahead of her are much better strikers, so it will be interesting to see her future matchups.--Matt Bricker
