Mackenzie Dern (8-1) did what she does best in May, which is win by submission. She defeated Hannah Cifers with a knee bar in the first round. To nobody's surprise, five of Dern's eight wins have come by submission. Her opponent for Saturday night, Randa Markos, has eight losses, with just one by submission. Her other seven losses are by decision. It will be an absolute grind for Dern to defeat a tough veteran in Markos. Though she absorbs almost four strikes per minute, once the fight is on the ground, few to none are her peers. Dern should absolutely be rostered for Saturday night's card.--Matt Bricker

Mackenzie Dern entered UFC 295 as a sizeable favorite but lost by second-round knockout to former strawweight champion Jessica Andrade. Dern was having some success on the fete in the first round but struggled to get it down to the mat as she went 0-for-3 on takedown attempts in the opening round. Then, with less than 30 seconds left in the round, Andrade dropped her to steal the round. In the second round, Dern went 0-for-1 on takedown attempts and was getting pieced up by Andrade. The Brazilian ended up knocking Dern down three more times in the second round, which forced the ref to stop the fight. Dern was officially outstruck 53-to-50 in the fight, but went 0-for-4 on takedowns and was knocked down four times in the loss. With the loss, Dern is now 8-4 in the UFC and 2-3 in her last five fights.--Cole Shelton
