Luke Weaver 2025 Fantasy Baseball Outlook: Elite Setup Man Should Still Provide Some Value
12 mins agoLuke Weaver ended the 2024 season as the Yankees' closer and was set to be one of the best fantasy options for saves in 2025. However, after the Yankees traded for Devin Williams, it appears as though Weaver will be reverting to the setup role he excelled at last year. In his first full season in the Bronx, Weaver had a 7-3 W-L record, 2.89 ERA, 0.93 WHIP, 103 Ks, and four saves (84.0 IP). Weaver also tallied 22 holds before moving into the closer role following Clay Holmes' struggles. In leagues counting holds, Weaver will be an elite option. Even in standard leagues, Weaver warrants drafting. He'll likely be next in line to close games if Williams is ever unavailable. Given the Yankees used Weaver for more than three outs in 31 of his 62 appearances, he'll have more volume than many other relievers. That helped Weaver in being one of only five pitchers to tally 100 Ks in relief last year. There's no reason to believe we won't see a similar season in 2025. Drafting Weaver in the last couple of rounds will likely provide more value than taking one of the starting pitchers who'll still be available in the last couple of rounds.
