New York Yankees first baseman Luke Voit has been backing up his talk lately, and he added an exclamation point on Friday night. Voit went 4-for-5 with a home run, a double, four RBI, and two runs scored. Suddenly a down year is looking up for the slugger, who has seven home runs, 21 runs scored, and 26 RBI in 154 at-bats. He's produced a .423/.464/.846 slash line over his last seven games, and surely should see increased playing time as a result. Add him now if he was dropped to the wire.--Doug Goldring

The New York Mets have informed Jose Iglesias, Tomas Nido, and Luke Voit that they did not make the team's Opening Day roster. Voit signed a minor-league contract with the Mets in February but failed to latch onto the team's main roster after hitting .097 with a home run and four RBI over 31 spring at-bats. Iglesias had a solid spring, but it wasn't enough to make the team's Opening Day roster. This spring, he hit .278 with a home run and three RBI over 36 at-bats. Both Voit and Iglesias will look to latch onto another team. Neither Iglesias nor Voit will provide much fantasy value even if they sign with another club ahead of 2024 fantasy drafts.--Brad Camara - RotoBaller

The New York Mets agreed to terms on a minor-league deal with an invitation to major-league spring training on Monday with free-agent first baseman/designated hitter Luke Voit. The 33-year-old right-handed slugger will return to the Mets after finishing the 2023 campaign playing for Triple-A Syracuse, where he had a strong 1.058 OPS with 14 home runs in 37 games. The veteran slugger played in 22 big-league games with the Milwaukee Brewers earlier in the year before getting released. He went 15-for-68 (.221) with no home runs and four RBI in his short stint in Milwaukee. Voit will open the 2024 season providing bench depth for the Mets, and there's a good chance he'll return to Syracuse.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

New York Mets first baseman Luke Voit has opted out of his minor-league deal with the club. Voit signed a minor-league deal with the Mets after being released by the Brewers in early June and has absolutely raked at Triple-A Syracuse. The 2020 MLB home run leader smacked 14 homers along with a 1.058 OPS across just 37 games at the minors' highest level with the Mets, figures that he hopes will earn him a big-league deal with a contender down the stretch as he has now hit the free-agent market once again. Voit hit 22 homers with a .710 OPS and a 102 wRC+ between the Nationals and Padres last season but has still been unable to find a full-time role on a big league club in the 2023 season.--Brenton Kemp

The New York Mets signed free-agent first baseman Luke Voit to a minor-league deal on Monday. He will join Triple-A Syracuse on Tuesday. Voit has fallen far since leading the majors with 22 home runs in the COVID-shortened 2020 season with the New York Yankees. He hit just 11 homers the following season and had 22 total long balls in 2022 with the San Diego Padres and Washington Nationals. With Pete Alonso (wrist) potentially missing the next three to four weeks with a left-wrist injury, Voit will give the Mets some more first base depth behind Mark Vientos and Mark Canha. Voit hit just .221 (15-for-68) with three doubles, no homers, four RBI and 27 strikeouts in 22 games for the Milwaukee Brewers this year before he was ultimately released.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
