Luis Severino Overcomes Shaky First Inning in Win
6 years agoEarly on in Wednesday night’s series finale at Guaranteed Rate Field against the Chicago White Sox, it appeared that New York Yankees No. 1 starter Luis Severino was headed for another bad outing. The 24-year-old allowed two runs on three hits in the first inning, once again raising serious concerns about his second half of the season. After that, however, he retired 11 straight, showcasing the form that once made him a Cy Young candidate this season. In the fifth, he allowed one last run, but he wound up going seven and allowing just three hits, striking out eight. While we shouldn’t be certain that he’s escaped his second-half slide, this was a much more effective outing.
