Luis Severino Named Opening Day Starter
7 years agoIn a move that was widely expected, New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone announced Saturday that starting pitcher Luis Severino will be the club’s Opening Day starting pitcher. The 24-year-old took a major leap forward in his third professional season last year, going 14-6 with a 2.98 ERA. Severino was envisioned as an ace when he made his debut in 2015 and after a disastrous 2016, he wound up entering 2017 with lower expectations. Entering 2018, however, Severino and the Yankees have significantly higher expectations following a surprise run that left them one win shy of a World Series berth.
