Luis Severino 2025 Fantasy Baseball Outlook: Solid But Low Ceiling Starter For Deep Leagues
Luis Severino had a long string of bad injury luck, getting Tommy John Surgery and dealing with serious groin and lat injuries in his last few seasons in pinstripes. Severino's days as a major league starter seemed to be over. Last offseason, the Mets took a flyer on him, and he had a solid season in their rotation. He went (11-7) over 182 innings with a 3.91 ERA and 1.24 WHIP. After Severino showed he could stay healthy and perform for a full season, the A's signed him to a three-year, $67 million contract. He should again provide good real-life value, eating up innings and giving the A's a chance to win each time he's on the mound. The 31-year-old developed his sweeper and saw his K% increase from 18.9% in 2023 to 21.2% in 2024. However, his upside in fantasy is limited. ATC projects Severino with a 4.40 ERA, 1.30 WHIP, and 148 strikeouts over 170 innings in 2025. He is ranked 301 on RotoBaller, aligning with his NFBC ADP 302. Unless your pitching staff really needs volume, Severino is not a pitcher to invest much in outside deep and AL-Only leagues.
