Luis Gil To Start A Throwing Program Soon
1 week agoNew York Yankees right-hander Luis Gil (lat) is expected to start a throwing program in the next several days, according to manager Aaron Boone. It's good news for Gil, but fantasy managers stashing him need to remember that he's on the 60-day injured list and isn't expected to make his first start for the Yankees until around early June. The 26-year-old suffered a high-grade right-lat strain in early March in spring training, causing him to miss most of the first half of the 2025 season. When coupled with right-hander Gerrit Cole's (elbow) season-ending injury, it put New York's starting rotation in a tough spot to open the year, giving both veteran Carlos Carrasco and Will Warren spots in the rotation. Fantasy managers are going to have to be patient with Gil. The good news for the Yankees rotation is that they should be getting Clarke Schmidt (shoulder) back next week.
