Luis Gil Progresses To Live Batting Practice
2 years agoNew York Yankees right-hander Luis Gil (elbow) has progressed to live batting practice. Gil hasn't pitched at all since May of 2022 after having Tommy John surgery. He was able to face hitters for the first time on Friday, which is a big step on the road to a full recovery. The 25-year-old should be able to return later this year as long as he doesn't have any setbacks along the way. But even if Gil is able to make it back in 2023, there's no guarantee that it would be in a starting role for the Yankees. In his seven starts for New York in 2021 and 2022, Gil went 1-1 with a 3.78 ERA (4.12 FIP), 1.38 WHIP, 21 walks and 43 strikeouts over 33 1/3 innings. Fantasy managers in redraft leagues can continue to ignore him.
