Luis Cessa Loses, Gets Demoted
6 years agoSeeking a sweep of the Philadelphia Phillies at Citizens Bank Park on Wednesday night, the New York Yankees sent right-hander Luis Cessa to the mound. The move came as the club sought to give CC Sabathia extra rest and save him for their upcoming showdown with the Boston Red Sox. It would ultimately backfire, as the 26-year-old only went three innings, allowing three runs on five hits while tossing 74 pitches. After the loss, the club didn’t hesitate to make a move, sending Cessa back down to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Barring any injuries, don’t expect Cessa to make any further starts this season.
