Luis Castillo Has Worst Start Of The Season On Friday
1 year agoSeattle Mariners starting pitcher Luis Castillo took a no-decision on Friday when he surrendered seven runs on 10 hits with six strikeouts and one walk over six innings in a 9-7 win over the Los Angeles Angels. Normally, you'd expect a starting pitcher to take the loss when they allow seven runs but the Mariners offense punched back in this one, giving their ace a no-decision for their effort. Castillo was victimized by the long ball in this contest, serving up a solo shot to Luis Rengifo on his first pitch of the game, a three-run homer to Mike Moustakas, and a two-run bomb to Mickey Moniak. He still managed to punch out six batters and only issued one walk but did give up a lot of hard contact. It happens. Castillo has been steady as a rock this season for Seattle so his overall stat line is still great, even with the poor effort on Friday. He'll carry a 3.21 ERA, 1.05 WHIP, and 155:34 K/BB ratio over 137 1/3 innings into his next turn against the Padres at home.
