Lucas Giolito Pleased With First Outing Of The Spring
4 years agoChicago White Sox starting pitcher Lucas Giolito felt like he's "right where he needs to be" after his first start of the spring on Tuesday. Giolito allowed one run in two innings while recording four punch-outs in a tie against the Rangers. Chicago's projected Opening Day starter noted that he made an effort to throw more sliders, a pitch he threw at the second-lowest rate of his career last year, in this outing- but that he'd probably sprinkle in more changeups if it were a regular-season game. Giolito was downright dominant at times last year- the no-hitter against the Pirates comes to mind- as he posted a career-best 3.19 FIP in 72 1/3 innings pitched while recording the second-best swinging-strike rate in the league. Giolito is being viewed as a top-10 starter right now in fantasy drafts- which is warranted given his elite ability to miss bats and potential for wins behind the powerful White Sox offense.
