Lucas Giolito Exits With Hamstring Tightness In Spring Debut
2 hours agoBoston Red Sox right-hander Lucas Giolito (elbow, hamstring) left his Grapefruit League debut on Tuesday against the Philadelphia Phillies with left-hamstring tightness. It was Giolito's first game since tearing his right UCL last March and then requiring a season-ending internal-brace procedure. However, the Boston Herald's Mac Cerullo is reporting that Giolito thinks it's "very minor" and isn't concerned about it after he said he felt his hamstring tighten up on his first pitch. The 30-year-old stayed in to finish an inning of work in which he gave up two runs and one hit while walking two. It's not exactly the outing Giolito or the Red Sox were hoping for after he missed the entire 2024 campaign. It's uncertain if this will keep him from pitching the fifth game of the regular season against the Orioles, but the Red Sox can't afford any more injuries to their starters with both Brayan Bello (shoulder) and Kutter Crawford starting on the injured list. UPDATE: Manager Alex Cora said Giolito will get an MRI exam on Wednesday.
