Washington Commanders tight end Logan Thomas (concussion) remained on the sideline for Thursday's practice session. Thomas is still in concussion protocol after taking a rough hit to the head during Sunday's victory over the Denver Broncos. There's still time, but Thomas is trending in the wrong direction ahead of Sunday's Week 3 matchup versus the Buffalo Bills. If he's unable to play, Cole Turner and John Bates would likely split up the reps at tight end. Neither of them are appealing streaming options for Sunday's contest.--Andy Webb - RotoBaller

The San Francisco 49ers announced on Friday that they released tight end Logan Thomas. It remains to be seen if Thomas' release has anything to do with a hamstring injury that kept him out of some training camp practices in the last week. He was set to serve as depth at the tight end position behind All-Pro George Kittle after signing a one-year deal this offseason, but now he'll be looking for an opportunity elsewhere. Eric Saubert will now be the primary backup at the position in San Francisco for Kittle. Injuries have been the story of Thomas' career for the most part and have kept him from reaching his true potential. The 33-year-old did manage to play in 16 games in 2023 in his final year with Washington and caught 55 passes for 496 yards and four touchdowns.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

San Francisco 49ers tight end Logan Thomas (hamstring) missed practice due to a hamstring injury. Thomas, who joined the 49ers in early June after four seasons with Washington, has yet to disclose the full extent of his injury. More information is anticipated in the coming days. The Arizona Cardinals drafted Thomas from Virginia Tech in the fourth round (No. 120 overall) of the 2014 NFL Draft. Last season, he caught 55 passes for 496 yards and four touchdowns in 16 games (15 starts) with the Commanders, participating in 70 percent of the offensive snaps. His early camp setback raises concerns, given Thomas's history of frequent injuries. With starter George Kittle often sidelined, the 49ers need a dependable backup, and Thomas's reliability is questionable at best. Monitor the situation closely, as the starting tight end for San Francisco could hold significant fantasy value.--Martin Grisko - RotoBaller

According to ESPN's Nick Wagoner, free-agent tight end Logan Thomas agreed to a one-year deal with the San Francisco 49ers. The 32-year-old began his career by making stops in Buffalo and Detroit. However, he made a name for himself in Washington, where he amassed 184 grabs for 1,685 yards and 14 touchdowns in 52 appearances for the Commanders. While Thomas will be behind George Kittle (abdomen) on the depth chart, he could still get involved enough to warrant a spot on some fantasy rosters. Of course, Thomas' stock will rise higher during the season if Kittle goes down with an injury.--Dennis Clausen - RotoBaller

The Washington Commanders are releasing veteran tight end Logan Thomas, according to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo. He was due $6.5 million this upcoming season, including a $500k roster bonus later this month. The converted college quarterback signed with the organization to play tight end in 2020, and he had a relatively successful run. Thomas caught 184 passes for 1,685 yards and 14 touchdowns in 52 games for the franchise, despite playing with several quarterbacks. The 32-year-old will likely draw some interest in free agency as a part-time of backup player. Meanwhile, Washington will likely look to replace him in the 2024 NFL Draft.--Jackson Sparks - RotoBaller
