Lions Not Looking To Trade Matthew Stafford
6 years agoDetroit Lions general manager Bob Quinn made it clear that the team isn't interested in trading quarterback Matthew Stafford. “Matthew Stafford is our quarterback; he will be our quarterback here,” Quinn said Friday in his annual postseason press conference. Stafford signed a long-term contract extension before the 2017 season, but he had a poor season in 2018, throwing only 21 touchdowns, his fewest since 2012. He didn't reach 4,000 yards either and had just 6.8 yards per attempt. In the end, a late-season back injury, a run-first offense and a season-ending injury to Marvin Jones and the trade of Golden Tate did Stafford in. With better health and a new offensive coordinator that caters to Stafford's strengths, he could have a bounce-back year with Kenny Golladay and Jones as his top receivers. Running back Kerryon Johnson showed promise as well. Draft Stafford in 2019 as a high-end QB2 with potential QB1 upside.
