Lions Expected To Pick Up T.J. Hockenson's Fifth-Year Option
3 years agoThe Detroit Lions reportedly will pick up tight end T.J. Hockenson's (thumb) fifth-year option. Lions general manager Brad Holmes confirmed he intends to pick up the fifth-year option on Hockenson's rookie contract. The team has until May 2 to formally announce the decision as his option will guarantee the tight end of $9.4 million in 2022. Both sides could work out a long-term extension before the May deadline. The 24-year-old underwent thumb surgery during the off-season but is expected to fully recover in time for the off-season program. He caught 61 passes for 583 yards and four touchdowns over 12 games in 2021. Hockenson is expected to be one of Jared Goff's top targets and is a top-10 fantasy tight end heading into the 2022 season.
