Line Shuffling Pays Off for Toronto in Game 2
4 years agoToronto Maple Leafs forwards Mitchell Marner and William Nylander each found themselves playing with new linemates for Game 2, and both saw their lines produce in a 3-0 victory. After getting shut out in Game 1, Toronto moved Marner to play with Matthews, who scored the game's first goal. Marner also recorded five shots. The swap put Nylander with Tavares, who scored the game's second goal with an assist from Nylander. After winning the game and dominating the shot differential (39 shots to 20 shots), expect Toronto to keep these new lines intact. When Marner is on the ice without Matthews at even strength Toronto had a 40 percent goals for percentage and 49.68 percent expected goals for percentage. With Matthews, those rates jump to 62.32 percent and 60.27 percent. Even though Marner has yet to record a point in the series, his value should increase while playing alongside Matthews.
