Liam Hendriks Undergoes Tommy John Surgery
1 year agoChicago White Sox closer Liam Hendriks (elbow) underwent successful Tommy John surgery on Wednesday morning to fix a torn UCL in his right elbow. The surgery was performed by Dr. Keith Meister in Arlington, Texas. It's a tough break for Hendriks, who had already made a return from non-Hodgkin lymphoma diagnosis earlier this year. The 34-year-old right-handed Aussie will end up making just five appearances for the White Sox this year, giving up three earned runs on four hits while walking one and striking out three in five innings with one save. Hendriks will now miss the rest of the 2023 season and most likely most of the 2024 campaign. For now, Gregory Santos should be Chicago's primary closer for the foreseeable future.
