Liam Hendriks Picks Up First Save
4 years agoChicago White Sox closer Liam Hendriks picked up his first save with new club on Friday versus the Los Angeles Angels. Hendriks entered in the bottom of the eighth inning with two runners on base in a one-run game and got shortstop Jose Iglesias to pop out to end the inning. The White Sox had a monster top of the ninth inning by scoring five runs, but Hendriks was summoned to finish the job and gave up a two-run home run to Shohei Ohtani with two outs before walking Mike Trout and eventually getting Anthony Rendon to strike out to end the game. Hendriks finished with a line of two hits, two runs, one walk and two strikeouts in 1 1/3 innings, but the bigger issue may be the fact that he threw 34 pitches and could be unavailable on Saturday making Aaron Bummer a candidate to pick up a save. Hendriks got paid the big bucks this offseason to come over from the Oakland Athletics and will play a vital part as part of the White Sox bullpen. He remains one of the top closers in all formats.
