Liam Hendriks Converts 30th Save
3 years agoChicago White Sox closer Liam Hendriks recorded his 30th save of the season in Tuesday's victory versus the Pittsburgh Pirates. Hendriks was dominant in the first half of the season, but has had some struggles in the second half of the year. Hendriks allowed one hit during his outing and failed to record a strikeout, but he was able to get the job done. The White Sox acquired relief pitcher Craig Kimbrel from the Cubs at the trade deadline and despite working a clean top of the eighth inning on Tuesday, Kimbrel has mostly struggled with his new club. Hendriks has previously said he would pitch in whatever role is necessary, but it seems that manager Tony La Russa feels his best options at the end of the game are Kimbrel in the eighth inning and Hendriks in the ninth. For the season, Hendriks has 30 saves and a 3.14 ERA. He remains one of the better closers in the game.
