Late Strategy Call Earns Joey Logano Valuable Points At Kansas
1 year ago A late caution in Sunday's Hollywood Casino 400 opened the door for strategy calls at Kansas Speedway, and one of the teams that decided to gamble with two tires instead of four was the No. 22 Penske Racing team. It worked out for them and they were able to secure a fifth-place finish, allowing driver Joey Logano to earn valuable points in doing so. Logano scored 35 points in Sunday's race thanks to that finish, and he now enters the Round of 16 cutoff race with a 12-point cushion over the cut line in the points standings. Logano's Green Flag Speed ranking at Kansas was just 14th-fastest in the field, so the pit road gamble was definitely worth it. After the race, Logano told Fox Sports' Bob Pockrass, "Two tires was definitely the right call. We netted out ten spots."
