7 years agoBoston Celtics guard Marcus Smart (illness) will start over the injured point guard Kyrie Irving (shoulder) in Thursday night's game against the Philadelphia 76ers. Irving was questionable coming into the contest with a sore shoulder, but head coach Brad Stevens has decided to be cautious with their star and sit him out Thursday. Smart was also questionable for Thursday with an illness, but feels a lot better coming into the night and will start in place of Irving. Point guard Terry Rozier will pick up extra run as the backup ball-handler, however Smart makes for the better DFS play for Thursday.--Dale Johnson

3 weeks agoWashington Wizards guard Marcus Smart has been cleared to suit up for Friday's game against the Milwaukee Bucks. Smart will make his debut with his new club after being traded from the Memphis Grizzlies. The defensive specialist could be an interesting fantasy contributor if he steps into a significant role with Washington, but the Wizards' plans for the veteran are unknown. The 30-year-old guard has played in 19 games this season, averaging 8.7 points, 2.3 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 1.2 steals per contest.--Andrew Lennox - RotoBaller

1 month agoThe Washington Wizards acquired guard Marcus Smart along with a 2025 first-round pick from the Grizzlies in a multi-team trade that sends two second-round picks to Memphis. Memphis is looking for roster flexibility with the move, and Smart will now join the Wizards backcourt that could definitely use some of his signature defensive intensity. Smart just returned on Wednesday night from a 10-week injury absence and played 18 minutes in the Grizzlies win over the Raptors. He went scoreless in that game and is averaging just 8.7 points, 3.7 assists, 2.3 rebounds, and 21.1 minutes in his 19 games this season. He could be an interesting fantasy contributor if he steps into a large role with Washington, but the Wizards' plans for the veteran are unknown right now since they were most likely involved in this trade for the draft capital.--Zach Thompson - RotoBaller

1 month agoMemphis Grizzlies guard Marcus Smart (finger) will play on Wednesday versus Toronto. The veteran hasn't been on the court since December 23, so he'll likely operate under a minutes restriction. But with Desmond Bane (ankle) ruled out, Smart could see enough minutes to justify his presence in fantasy lineups against one of the worst teams in the NBA.--Dennis Clausen - RotoBaller

1 month agoMemphis Grizzlies guard Marcus Smart (finger) has been listed as questionable for Wednesday's meeting with the Toronto Raptors. He has been out for 19 games while recovering from a finger injury. Memphis had him as doubtful on the injury report only a couple of days ago, so Smart appears to be making very good progress and may be available on Wednesday night for the first time since Dec. 21. With the loss of Desmond Bane (ankle), Smart could have a significant role to play right away.--Taavi Pailk - RotoBaller
