Kyle Schwarber Producing Despite Lowly Batting Average
1 year agoKyle Schwarber remains in left field and atop the Philadelphia Phillies batting order despite his lowly .186 batting average heading into Friday night's series opener at home against the Washington Nationals. The 30-year-old finished the 2022 season with a .218 batting average and a .323 on-base percentage to go with his career-high 46 homers. Schwarber has somehow elevated his impressive walk rate even more this season, leading to a .326 OBP. He is just off the home run pace from last year, however, with 21 round-trippers at the halfway mark of the season. A typical strikeout rate, a surprisingly low .200 BABIP, and a hard hit rate without red flags suggest that Schwarber will find his way above the Mendoza Line before season's end, but fantasy managers in traditional 5x5 roto leagues will continue to be punished by his dreadfully low average while reaping the benefits of his home run power and runs scored.
