New Jersey Devils forward Kyle Palmieri did everything he could to secure a victory for the Devils, scoring a hat trick in a 7-6 overtime loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning. Wayne Simmonds also had a big game, tallying three assists which only brings his total to four on the season. Jesper Bratt with two and Sami Vatanen were the other goalscorers for the Devils. Not surprisingly in a 7-6 game, the goaltending was a big issue for the Devils, as Cory Schneider allowed seven goals on just 23 shots. --Nate Duffett

New York Islanders right wing Kyle Palmieri (undisclosed) returned to the lineup as the team finished its preseason slate with a 3-0 defeat against New Jersey on Friday. The 32-year-old logged 14:12 of action, firing two shots on goal and recording two penalty minutes with one hit and a minus-one rating. A mysterious injury cloud has accompanied Palmieri throughout training camp, but he was finally able to join his teammates in practice earlier in the week and was also thrown quickly into action. Having Palmieri available for the start of the season is big news for the Islanders. The New York native averaged the fourth-most points among Islanders forwards last term, scoring 16 goals and registering 17 assists in 55 appearances.--Taavi Pailk - RotoBaller

New York Islanders right wing Kyle Palmieri (undisclosed) has started skating again, but it's still unclear when he can start practicing again. The 32-year-old suffered an unspecified injury during pre-training camp workouts. Palmieri has averaged 0.5 points per game for the Islanders across two and a half seasons, and he would certainly be missed if he can't start the season with the team. The season opener is scheduled for the Islanders against Buffalo on Oct. 14. Hudson Fasching has been skating in Palmieri's spot on the second line in training camp.--Taavi Pailk - RotoBaller

New York Islanders right wing Kyle Palmieri (undisclosed) will undergo re-evaluation following the team's first preseason games. The Islanders will play the Rangers on Tuesday and clash with the Flyers on Wednesday. Palmieri has been skating on his own at the start of training camp due to an unspecified injury. Injuries have unfortunately accompanied Palmieri throughout his career. He hasn't hit 80 games in six seasons and was limited to 55 outings last term. The 32-year-old remains a capable player, though, and should fill a top-six role once he's healthy again.--Taavi Pailk - RotoBaller

New York Islanders forward Kyle Palmieri scored once and added an assist in a 5-1 victory against Carolina Friday. The Hurricanes still lead the series 2-1. Besides collecting two points, Palmieri also helped New York in other ways, as he was a plus-1 and had two blocked shots and four hits. He now has two markers and two helpers in the playoffs. In addition, Palmieri and his teammates netted four unanswered goals in the third period, the four fastest goals scored in playoff history.--Andrew Lennox - RotoBaller
