Kyle Freeland Named Opening Day Starter
6 years agoThe Colorado Rockies officially named starting pitcher Kyle Freeland the Opening Day starter on Monday. The choice was obvious after Freeland was far and away the best pitcher for the Rockies last year as he went 17-7 with a 2.85 ERA and finished fourth in the Cy Young voting, but now it's official. Unfortunately, the good times may be short-lived. Freeland is a shining beacon upon the hill of expected regression as his xFIP from last season implied that his ERA should be heading more towards 4.22 than sub-3.00, and his lack of strikeouts combined with a falling ground ball rate heavily imply that his magic will run out at some point. Fantasy owners wouldn't be remiss to pass on Freeland unless he comes quite cheap.
