Kyle Busch Disappoints in Martinsville Qualifying Despite Strong Practice Speeds
1 year agoMartinsville Speedway is a half-mile flat track and the NASCAR Cup Series is scheduled to run 500 laps around it on Sunday afternoon or the Xfinity 500 race. For drivers, that means that long-run speed is an absolute necessity if they want to compete for a good finish this weekend. During practice on Saturday, Kyle Busch looked to have really good long-run speed, as the No. 8 Chevrolet was the fastest car when it came to 20-lap average during the session. In qualifying, Busch wound up 31st-fastest, though, which is where he will start the race from on Sunday. That is going to be quite the uphill battle to overcome even with the long-run practice speed. Busch is a two-time winner at Martinsville Speedway and has posted 17 top-five finishes in 36 career starts at the race track, but it won't be easy to add to either of those totals this weekend.
