Despite optioning him off the active roster recently, the Texas Rangers added pitcher Kolby Allard to the big league roster for opening day. The lefty had a solid spring by allowing five earned runs in 11.2 innings. He also posted an impressive K-BB of 15-4. Allard wasn't as successful in 2020 at the MLB level, though. He produced an ugly 7.75 ERA and a modest 21% strikeout rate. From a roster manipulation standpoint, Allard is valuable because he can start or relieve and his minor league option allows him to be demoted and/or recalled repeatedly throughout the season. He has very limited fantasy intrigue at this point.--Marc Hulet - RotoBaller

Philadelphia Phillies left-hander Kolby Allard will be recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley to rejoin the team's starting rotation on Saturday to take on the division-rival New York Mets at Citizens Bank Park. Allard will take over for Seth Johnson after his bad outing against the Miami Marlins last Sunday. The 27-year-old southpaw will be making his first start for the Phillies since Aug. 25, when he gave up two earned runs while walking none and striking out five over five innings for a win over the Kansas City Royals. He has only made four appearances (three starts) in the big leagues for the Phils in 2024 but has been decent with a 3.50 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 13 strikeouts in 18 innings pitched. The Mets present a tough challenge for Allard as they seek a wild-card spot in the National League. They rank 10th in baseball with a .737 OPS, making Allard a shaky deep-league streaming option on Saturday.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher Kolby Allard is being promoted from Triple-A Lehigh Valley to make a spot start in Sunday's series finale against the Kansas City Royals. Allard has made three starts at the major league level this summer and has held a 3.46 ERA and a 1.23 WHIP across 13 innings of work. At Triple-A this summer, Allard has posted a disappointing 5.75 ERA and a 1.46 WHIP. If he performs well this afternoon, Allard could be in line to receive a handful of starts over the next few weeks. DFS players should fade Allard this afternoon as the Royals hold a strong 18.3 K rate against southpaws this summer.--Andy Smith - RotoBaller

The Philadelphia Phillies agreed to terms on an undisclosed one-year deal with free-agent left-hander Kolby Allard on Tuesday. Allard will remain in the National League East after returning to the Atlanta Braves for the 2023 season. He only made four appearances (three starts) for the Braves and allowed nine earned runs with four walks and 13 strikeouts in 12 1/3 innings pitched at the big-league level. The 26-year-old southpaw didn't make his season debut until mid-July due to nerve inflammation in his left shoulder. Allard will give the Phillies some starting-pitching depth entering the 2024 campaign and has an option remaining, so he could open the year at Triple-A Lehigh Valley. He's been pretty inconsistent in 245 career innings in the majors over six seasons, posting a 6.10 ERA (5.31 FIP) and 1.43 WHIP with 204 strikeouts and 84 walks in 69 outings (38 starts).--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

The Atlanta Braves placed left-hander Kolby Allard (shoulder) on the 60-day injured list (retroactive to July 17) with left-shoulder nerve inflammation on Tuesday and selected the contract of outfielder Forrest Wall from the minors in a corresponding move. Allard's injured-list placement comes after he left his start on Sunday early against the Chicago White Sox. There's now a chance that the 25-year-old southpaw won't pitch again for the Braves for the rest of the season. It's been a frustrating year for Allard, as he's posted a 6.57 ERA (4.26 FIP), 1.62 WHIP, four walks and 13 strikeouts in 12 1/3 innings over four appearances (three starts) in his first year in Atlanta. Fantasy managers that have Allard rostered in deeper redraft leagues should probably dump him now.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
