Kirby Yates Out On Paternity Leave
6 years agoSan Diego Padres reliever Kirby Yates was placed on paternity leave before Tuesday's game against the Oakland Athletics. It's likely he'll return this weekend against the Arizona Diamondbacks. The 31-year-old veteran is enjoying a career year, posting a stellar 0.79 ERA, 0.82 WHIP and 10.6 K/9 in 34 innings. He's recorded 16 holds as the Friars eighth-inning man and has poached two saves. Although a 2.14 FIP suggests he's been lucky, Yates is a solid fantasy candidate for leagues with tight innings limits. He's also the primary handcuff for closer Brad Hand should he get traded, injured or otherwise.
