Kirby Yates Is An All-Star
5 years agoSan Diego Padres closer Kirby Yates will be the team’s representative at the 2019 All-Star Game. To no one’s surprise, Yates earns his first All-Star appearance with a stellar first half and league-leading 27 saves. After tossing a scoreless inning on Sunday against the St. Louis Cardinals, Yates sits with a 1.27 ERA, 0.85 WHIP and fantastic 41 percent strikeout rate. Once a journeyman fighting for his major league life, the 32-year-old Yates has evolved into one of baseball’s premier late-game specialists. Fantasy owners with the foresight to steal him in drafts have been handsomely rewarded.
