Kirby Yates Blows First Save
6 years agoSan Diego Padres closer Kirby Yates blew his first save Thursday against the Colorado Rockies. With two outs in the ninth, Yates surrendered a two-run homer to Ian Desmond to end the game in walk-off fashion. Since taking over closer duties in mid-July, he had converted all three of his previous save opportunities. Yates has scuffled in his last four appearances with a 9.82 ERA but still holds a sturdy 2.16 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 12.6 K/9 this season. While save chances could be infrequent, Yates appears the Padres go-to man in the ninth and his excellent ratios make him playable in all fantasy leagues.
