Kelvin Herrera Inks Deal With Cubs, Eyes Bullpen Spot
4 years agoRight-handed pitcher Kelvin Herrera has latched on with the Cubs after a brief two-game tenure with the White Sox to open 2020. Things went sideways for the veteran righty to start the year, yielding four runs in 2 ⅓ innings. While his 2019 numbers (6.14 ERA in 51 ⅓ frames) aren’t promising either, Herrera has a track record as a closer and he is joining a bullpen in flux with Craig Kimbrel also scuffling early. Owners will certainly want to wait and see where Herrera slots into the team’s bullpen mix, but he could be a speculative add in deeper leagues should he start putting up zeros, as he limited batters to an excellent average exit velocity of 86.7 MPH last year.
