Karel Vejmelka Shines With A 46-Save Shutout
3 years agoArizona Coyotes goaltender Karel Vejmelka had a huge night on Monday against the Jets, recording his first career shutout with 46 saves. Arizona got outshot 46-15 but Vejmelka's magnificent performance helped them to a 1-0 victory. The 25-year-old has now won back-to-back starts after going 0-9-1 in his first 10 decisions this season. Scott Wedgewood, who is 3-5-2 for the season, has gotten most of the starts in recent weeks, but Vejmelka surely improved his stock here. He took his goals-against average to 2.80 and now carries a .916 save percentage.

Karel Vejmelka Snaps Skid On Friday Night
2 months agoUtah Hockey Club goaltender Karel Vejmelka stopped 18 of the 19 shots he faced en route to defeating the San Jose Sharks. Vejmelka's lone blemish came in the opening frame on a wrist shot from Fabian Zetterlund. Vejmelka was able to shut the door for the remainder of the evening. This was a nice bounce-back outing for the 28-year-old as he carried a 1-4-1 record over his past six games into Friday's contest. During this span, he allowed three or more goals in four of them and never allowed one or less. Before this cold stretch, he was riding a four-game win streak. Vejmelka will look to start a new winning streak in his next start, which will likely be Tuesday evening against the Canadiens, as Connor Ingram will likely get the nod in the second half of a back-to-back on Saturday night.

Karel Vejmelka Takes On Kraken Monday
2 months agoUtah Hockey Club goaltender Karel Vejmelka will be the man between the pipes for the team on Monday against Seattle. He gets the nod for the first leg of a back-to-back, with Jaxson Stauber likely working on Tuesday against Edmonton in the final game of 2024. Vejmelka has been in good form throughout the campaign but enters Monday's matchup with a losing streak. The Czech netminder has suffered two straight defeats despite allowing only five total goals in meetings with Dallas and Colorado. The losses have dropped Vejmelka's record to 8-9-2. However, he has the fifth-lowest goals-against average in the league at 2.32 and the fourth-best save percentage at .918. The Kraken sit among the league's lowest-scoring teams, so Vejmelka appears to be in a good spot to return to winning ways on Monday night.

Karel Vejmelka Gets Another Start On Sunday
4 months agoUtah Hockey Club goaltender Karel Vejmelka will remain in the crease for Sunday's battle against Toronto. He'll be in action for a second consecutive day following a 27-save effort in Saturday's 6-1 win over Pittsburgh. Vejmelka picks up an extra shift due to Connor Ingram's (upper body) absence. There have been only two wins in seven starts for Vejmelka this season, but his other numbers look impressive, with the Czech netminder logging a 2.21 goals-against average and a .927 save percentage. The bookmakers don't provide a lot of hope for Utah on Sunday, as the visitors are seen as +160 underdogs for the matchup, but Vejmelka faces a team that's lost several quality forwards to injury, giving him a better chance to grab the victory.

Karel Vejmelka To Start Friday Versus Kraken
12 months agoArizona Coyotes goaltender Karel Vejmelka is getting the starting nod for Friday's home game against the visiting Seattle Kraken. The 27-year-old has been alternating starts with Connor Ingram of late but he has been the better goaltender over his last handful of starts after Ingram had overtaken the No. 1 job earlier in the season. Vejmelka has allowed two goals or fewer in three of his last four starts and has posted a .933 save percentage in that time. His overall numbers still leave plenty to be desired as he sports a 3.37 goals-against average and an .897 Sv% in 31 games (27 starts) this season but is a decent streaming option against a Seattle team that ranks 29th in overall offense and is playing their second game in as many nights.
