Justin Verlander Dealt Back To Astros
1 year agoThe New York Mets have a deal in place to send pitcher Justin Verlander back to the Houston Astros. The Mets are receiving Astros top prospect Drew Gilbert as part of the swap. Of course, the future Hall of Famer enjoyed some of his best seasons with the Astros, including the 2022 season in which he was an All-Star, won his third career AL Cy Young Award, and won his second World Series as a member of the Astros. Verlander struggled early this season after beginning the campaign on the injured list but has been excellent of late, allowing just seven earned runs over his last seven starts spanning 42 1/3 innings of work. The right-hander owns a 3.15 ERA on the season across 16 starts but has also seen his strikeout rate dip to just 21%, his lowest mark since the 2014 season.
