Jurickson Profar Could Play Multiple Positions
5 years agoSan Diego Padres second baseman Jurickson Profar could see extra at-bats this season thanks to his ability to play multiple positions. Although he has worked exclusively at second during Spring Training, Padres' manager Jayce Tingler acknowledges the 27-year old's versatility could come into play. “I do feel, after seeing him play left field, after seeing him play center field and first base, I feel pretty confident that if we had to do that he could pick it up really quickly," Tingler told Jeff Sanders of the San Diego Union-Tribune. "Right now, the focus is on second." With Brian Dozier and Greg Garcia expected to earn a sizable portion of time at second base, particularly against right-handers, Profar could see time at other positions. The former Texas and Oakland utility man is currently being drafted outside the top 300 players and could be worth a flier if he is able to continue his solid hitting (.333) into the regular season.
