Julio Jones Will Not Receive New Deal
6 years agoThe Atlanta Falcons have told wide receiver Julio Jones that he will not receive a new deal before the regular season begins, but they hope he still reports for training camp at the end of this month. The Falcons told Jones they hadn't budgeted a renegotiation this offseason and could not rework his deal at this time. Jones is two years into a five-year deal and the front office has prioritized extensions for defensive tackle Grady Jarrett, left tackle Jake Matthews and safety Ricardo Allen over Jones. The star receiver held out of organized team activities and minicamp to show his displeasure over his contract, but it's unclear if he'll miss any of training camp. Contract issues aside, he should remain a high-end WR1 in an offense that should take a step forward from disappointment in 2017.
