Julian Merryweather Earns Second Save Of Season
4 years agoToronto Blue Jays relief pitcher Julian Merryweather earned his second save of the season on Sunday in a 3-1 victory over the Yankees. Pitching a perfect ninth inning, Merryweather struck out Gleyber Torres looking, got Jay Bruce to line out and then got Gary Sanchez to strike out swinging to end the game. After presumed closer Kirby Yates went down due to Tommy John surgery, it was unclear who would stand out in the Blue Jays bullpen. But now it looks like Merryweather has locked down the closer's job to start the year. Merryweather has now struck out five of the six batters he has faced this year, and managers should look to claim him off the waiver-wire immediately.
