Josh Staumont Should Make Spring Debut Soon
4 years agoKansas City Royals relief pitcher Josh Staumont saw his arrival at camp delayed due to undisclosed reasons. However, he's with the team now and he threw one inning during a simulated game on Thursday. He should be able to make his Cactus League debut soon. The right-handed Staumont was a solid arm out of the bullpen for the Royals last year. He made 26 appearances and posted a 2.45 ERA and 1.40 WHIP while averaging 13.0 K/9. He should be one of the team's primary setup men this year, but could also see some save opportunities if manager Mike Matheny goes with a bit of a committee approach, utilizing Staumont alongside Greg Holland and Scott Barlow.
